BAYLAT announces seed funding for new projects with Latin America

TUM Global, News, TUM São Paulo | 20.08.2026

The Bavarian Academic Center for Latin America (BAYLAT) supports new collaborations between researchers in Bavaria and Latin America in the fields of research and teaching. Researchers and faculty members at TUM can apply for the current BAYLAT seed funding program until September 21, 2026.

BAYLAT Logo
BAYLAT supports new research and teaching projects between Bavaria and Latin America.

Funding is available for innovative projects across all academic disciplines, including joint research initiatives, the development of joint degree programs, projects aimed at enhancing teaching, and digital formats in research and education. Hybrid projects combining in-person and online activities are also eligible. Examples include academic videoconferences, online teaching activities, and the development of new research collaborations through digital platforms.

The call is open to all subject areas and explicitly welcomes interdisciplinary projects. Particular emphasis is placed on initiatives that involve early career researchers. As this funding is intended to provide initial support for new collaborations, applicants are also expected to outline how the partnership will be sustained beyond the funding period, for example through follow-up funding applications, joint publications, or other long-term cooperation strategies.

The maximum funding amount is €8,000. The funding period runs from January 1 to December 31, 2027.

Application

Project proposals must be submitted online by the Bavarian project lead no later than Monday, September 21, 2026. In addition, a legally signed copy of the application must be sent to BAYLAT by post no later than one week after the electronic submission deadline.
