Join the CMU-Africa Workshop in Kigali through EuroTech

As part of the EuroTech network, TUM researchers have the opportunity to participate in the CMU-Africa Workshop on AI, Digital Systems and Infrastructure Systems, which will take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from October 12 to 16, 2026. The workshop offers a unique opportunity to build international connections and initiate new research collaborations. Researchers interested in being nominated can submit an expression of interest by August 20, 2026.

Afretec is a network of African science and technology-focused universities led by CMU-Africa.

The workshop is organized by AfreTec, a network of African science and technology-focused universities led by CMU-Africa, Carnegie Mellon University’s presence in Africa. The event will bring together 20 to 30 faculty members and researchers from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, CMU-Africa, and partner institutions across Africa to strengthen existing connections and develop collaborative research projects. As part of the ongoing collaboration between the EuroTech Universities Alliance and AfreTec, up to three researchers from the EuroTech network may be nominated to participate.

The workshop will explore how artificial intelligence, digital twins, and advanced computing methods can help address challenges in the fields of energy, transportation, buildings, and urban systems. A key objective is to identify opportunities for future collaboration and develop concept notes for joint research projects.

Participation costs will be covered by AfreTec.

Expression of interest by August 20, 2026

Researchers interested in being considered for nomination are invited to contact Dominik Beisser by August 20, 2026.

The expression of interest should include:

  • how the applicant’s current research relates to the workshop themes,
  • areas in which they would be interested in developing collaborative research projects,
  • any existing collaborations or research experience in Africa, particularly with AfreTec member institutions.
