The SEED Annual Symposium 2026 brought together researchers, students, and partner institutions from across Africa and Europe to exchange ideas on sustainable development, the energy transition, and international research collaboration.
Strategic focus in challenging times
In his opening remarks, Prof. Frank-Martin Belz, Director of the TUM SEED Center, addressed the challenges facing international higher education partnerships in times of limited resources. He emphasized that the key is not simply to do more with less, but to make deliberate choices: safeguarding long-term partnerships, strengthening research and education where they can have the greatest impact, and ensuring that as many students and researchers as possible can benefit from international collaboration.
Advancing international collaboration
The symposium provided a platform for discussions on sustainable development and the energy transition, while also advancing joint research and educational initiatives across the international SEED Center network. At the same time, the gathering highlighted the importance of reliable partnerships and international collaboration in addressing global challenges.
